Not Just a Mom – A IronMomma Project
This isn’t just about miles on a course.
It’s about the miles you carry every day — sometimes with snacks, schedules, and someone yelling “MOM” from behind you.
Not Just a Mom is a community-centered running and walking event created to honor mothers and caregivers — not just for what they do for others, but for who they are. Whether you’re chasing a PR, pushing a stroller, walking with friends, or lacing up for the first time in a while, you belong here.
This event is also a fundraiser dedicated to raising awareness for postpartum depression and connecting our community with education, resources, and support. Postpartum mental health matters, and no one should feel alone in navigating it. A portion of proceeds from this event will go toward increasing awareness and helping point individuals and families toward local and accessible resources.
Before registering, please take a moment to read through the details so you know what you’re getting into. This event does things a little differently — on purpose.
Course Overview
The course follows a paved multi-use path along the Tennessee River with scenic views and a mostly flat profile, plus a few gentle changes in elevation to keep things interesting. The route heads toward Chickamauga Dam and is designed to be accessible, welcoming, and friendly for a wide range of paces.
The start/finish area includes access to permanent restrooms with flushing toilets and running water — yes, real bathrooms. You’re welcome.
Depending on your distance, you’ll pass the start/finish and aid station area multiple times. Translation:
-
Easy access to hydration and fuel
-
A place to stash a drop bag
-
Somewhere to peel off layers once the sun shows up
-
Familiar faces cheering you on (even if you didn’t know them five minutes ago)
Strollers & Shared-Use Courtesy
This event is stroller friendly, and families are absolutely welcome.
That said, while this is a closed race course, the Riverwalk will still have members of the public out enjoying their morning. Let’s all be good trail humans:
-
Stay to the right when possible
-
Avoid blocking the entire path
-
Allow others to pass safely
-
Keep your head up and your awareness on
A little kindness and situational awareness go a long way — and make the morning better for everyone.
Event Philosophy
This race isn’t about podiums, pressure, or proving anything to anyone else.
Yes, you’ll get timed and have results. No, no one is judging how fast (or slow) you go. This event is about showing up, moving your body, and being surrounded by people who understand that life doesn’t stop just because you want to run.
Walkers, first-timers, seasoned runners and “I just needed something for me” participants are all welcome here.
And because this event supports postpartum depression awareness, we ask that this space also be one of compassion, openness, and encouragement — on the course and beyond it.
